왕이 되고자 한 아도니야

• 1다윗 왕이 나이가 많아 늙으니 이불을 덮어도 따뜻하지 아니한지라
• 2그의 시종들이 왕께 아뢰되 우리 주 왕을 위하여 젊은 처녀 하나를 구하여 그로 왕을 받들어 모시게 하고 왕의 품에 누워 우리 주 왕으로 따뜻하시게 하리이다 하고
• 3이스라엘 사방 영토 내에 아리따운 처녀를 구하던 중 수넴 여자 아비삭을 얻어 왕께 데려왔으니
• 4이 처녀는 심히 아름다워 그가 왕을 받들어 시중들었으나 왕이 잠자리는 같이 하지 아니하였더라
• 5그 때에 학깃의 아들 아도니야가 스스로 높여서 이르기를 내가 왕이 되리라 하고 자기를 위하여 병거와 기병과 호위병 오십 명을 준비하니
• 6그는 압살롬 다음에 태어난 자요 용모가 심히 준수한 자라 그의 아버지가 네가 어찌하여 그리 하였느냐고 하는 말로 한 번도 그를 섭섭하게 한 일이 없었더라
• 7아도니야가 스루야의 아들 요압과 제사장 아비아달과 모의하니 그들이 따르고 도우나
• 8제사장 사독과 여호야다의 아들 브나야와 선지자 나단과 시므이와 레이와 다윗의 용사들은 아도니야와 같이 하지 아니하였더라
• 9아도니야가 에느로겔 근방 소헬렛 바위 곁에서 양과 소와 살찐 송아지를 잡고 왕자 곧 자기의 모든 동생과 왕의 신하 된 유다 모든 사람을 다 청하였으나
• 10선지자 나단과 브나야와 용사들과 자기 동생 솔로몬은 청하지 아니하였더라
• 11나단이 솔로몬의 어머니 밧세바에게 말하여 이르되 학깃의 아들 아도니야가 왕이 되었음을 듣지 못하였나이까 우리 주 다윗은 알지 못하시나이다
• 12이제 내게 당신의 생명과 당신의 아들 솔로몬의 생명을 구할 계책을 말하도록 허락하소서
• 13당신은 다윗 왕 앞에 들어가서 아뢰기를 내 주 왕이여 전에 왕이 여종에게 맹세하여 이르시기를 네 아들 솔로몬이 반드시 나를 이어 왕이 되어 내 왕위에 앉으리라 하지 아니하셨나이까 그런데 아도니야가 무슨 이유로 왕이 되었나이까 하소서
• 14당신이 거기서 왕과 말씀하실 때에 나도 뒤이어 들어가서 당신의 말씀을 확증하리이다

• 1When King David was very old, he could not keep warm even when they put covers over him.
• 2So his attendants said to him, “Let us look for a young virgin to serve the king and take care of him. She can lie beside him so that our lord the king may keep warm.”
• 3Then they searched throughout Israel for a beautiful young woman and found Abishag, a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
• 4The woman was very beautiful; she took care of the king and waited on him, but the king had no sexual relations with her.
• 5Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, “I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.
• 6(His father had never rebuked him by asking, “Why do you behave as you do?” He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.)
• 7Adonijah conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they gave him their support.
• 8But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei and Rei and David’s special guard did not join Adonijah.
• 9Adonijah then sacrificed sheep, cattle and fattened calves at the Stone of Zoheleth near En Rogel. He invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the royal officials of Judah,
• 10but he did not invite Nathan the prophet or Benaiah or the special guard or his brother Solomon.
• 11Then Nathan asked Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, “Have you not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, has become king, and our lord David knows nothing about it?
• 12Now then, let me advise you how you can save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.
• 13Go in to King David and say to him, ‘My lord the king, did you not swear to me your servant: “Surely Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’
• 14While you are still there talking to the king, I will come in and add my word to what you have said.”
